2010-11 School Year

Finally! I have completed all my planning for the upcoming school year. I have to admit, I am more excited about this year than the two previous years. Homeschooling is definitely an investment that grows and pays off with time. I think we have a rich year ahead of us, with good academic plans, a weekly co-op (Classical Conversations) and two homeschoool groups with familiar kids that will have field trips and local meet-ups throughout the year.

Official start dates:
August 23rd, begin Math and Reading. September 14th, add full curriculum.

1st grade:

Phonics/reading - Phonics Museum.
Handwriting - Memoria Press.
Poetry - Institute for Excellence in Writing.
Read aloud - Tapestry of Grace.
Journaling - Catholic Heritage Curriculum.
Spelling: Phonics Museum.
Math: Singapore Math.
History: Classical Conversations, Tapestry of Grace.
Geography: Classical Conversations.
Science: Classical Conversations, Seton.
Music: Violin lessons, Catholic Heritage Curriculum.
Dance: Irish dance (fall), ballet (spring).


5th grade:

Composition: 1001 Writing Projects for Students by Fred Cooper.
Grammar: Seton (6th grade).
Spelling: A Beka.
Literature: Seton (6th), A Beka, Veritas Press.
Poetry: Institute for Excellence in Writing.
Handwriting: Memoria Press.
Vocabulary: New Monic Press.
Math: Singapore Math.
Latin: Memoria Press.
Geography: Evan-Moore.
History: Classical Conversations, Seton (6th grade), Tapestry of Grace.
Science: Classical Conversations, Seton (5th grade).
Music: Trumpet lessons.
Sports: Tae Kwan Do, Seton (5th).

Preschool:
Preschool on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Classical Conversations co-op on Friday mornings. Learn to read with Phonics Museum (if he takes to the material).
